Executive Director, Fred Spicer and Scott Scarfone, of Oasis Design Group who led the planning efforts, unveiled Birmingham Botanical Gardens' new Master Plan on Thursday, March 25, 2010.
This new Master Plan focused on four distinct areas: education (our mission), stormwater management, sustainability and accessibility.
A master plan is, in simple terms, a long-term, comprehensive land-use strategy. The most recent (partial) plan was completed in 1989. Since then, our institution has grown; new needs and opportunities have arisen, and challenges previously unforeseen must be met. Some natural elements have changed as well. Off-site influences and technological and cultural changes have stimulated new ideas. These changes are opportunities for us to honor our past while meeting our goals for the future.
