SUMMARY:Making Homemade Fig Preserves
DESCRIPTION:Events\n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDrawing to Know: Strategies for Seeing and Recording the World Around You\n\n\n \n \n Instructor\n \n David West\n \n \n \n Location\n \n \n Exploration Classroom\n \n \n \n\n\n\nLearn how to preserve your late-summer fig harvest through water-bath canning with Food Safety and Quality Extension Agent Emily Ferko. Participants will leave with a delicious jar of fresh fig-strawberry preserves. \n\n\n\nGrowers have cultivated and enjoyed the edible fig (Ficus carica)\, native to the Mediterranean\, for centuries. In Central Alabama\, fig season extends from July through September. Because figs ripen on the tree and spoil quickly\, this is the perfect time to preserve their fruity goodness! *Supply fee included. \n\n\n\n \n Members: $50\n |\n Nonmembers: $55\n \n \n\n\n\nBecome a Friend of the Gardens and join us in our mission to protect\, nurture\, and share the wonders of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Thank you for your support! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n Become a Member\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCancellation & Refund Policy\n\n\n\nRefunds (minus a $15 processing fee) will be given for Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens programs priced at $25 or more if notification is made at least 10 business days prior to class start date. (You are always welcome to send another person under your registration if you cannot attend.) Transfers may be made to programs of equal value at no additional fee. We reserve the right to cancel classes due to lack of participation or other unforeseen circumstances. Please note that programs are held rain or shine; in extreme weather conditions\, programs may be canceled for your safety and the safety of staff and volunteers. If we cancel a program for any of these reasons\, we will issue a full refund.
