In this outdoor workshop with clinical herbalist and educator Cameron Strouss\, you’ll discover how eleven beloved medicinal mints can support your well-being. You’ll have the chance to smell\, taste\, and learn practical ways to begin incorporating these plants into your daily life—no prior experience needed. \n\n\n\nPlants featured include peppermint\, spearmint\, thyme\, rosemary\, lemon balm\, holy basil\, catnip\, bee balm\, motherwort\, skullcap\, and self-heal. \n\n\n\nInstructor: Cameron Strouss\n\n\n\nCameron is an experienced herbal educator and clinical herbalist dedicated to making herbal medicine accessible through practical\, science-based education. As the founder of Deep Roots School of Foraging and Herbal Medicine\, she has developed comprehensive programs teaching thousands of students the practical applications of herbal medicine in professional-grade herbal care. \n\n\n\nHer teaching integrates 15 years of herbal study\, 9 years of clinical work\, and over 4\,000 hours of scientific and herbal education. Cameron holds a Biology degree from the University of Montevallo\, Clinical Herbal Certification from The Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine\, and is a graduate of the Southeastern Institute for Traditional Herbal Studies. \n\n\n\nShe maintains professional credentials as an FH\, RH (AHG)\, and Level 1 Aromatherapist and is the published author of Wild Wellness: A Journal for Medicinal Foraging. SUMMARY:Air Layering: Propagating Difficult-To-Root Plants
DESCRIPTION:Programs & Events\n \n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMaking Homemade Fig Preserves\n\n\n \n \n Instructor\n \n Emily Ferko\n \n \n \n Location\n \n \n Exploration Classroom\n \n \n \n\n\n\nJoin horticulturist Julia Adams for a hands-on workshop to learn how to propagate plants via air-layering. This method of propagation allows you to multiply difficult-to-root plants during the summer when plants are still in an active growing phase. In this session\, you will learn about the science behind air-layering and practice on plants throughout the Japanese Garden. \n\n\n\nInstructor: Julia Adams\n\n\n\nJulia Adams is our Senior Horticulturist for the Japanese Garden. A graduate of the University of Tennessee\, Julia earned a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management as well as a degree in plant sciences\, concentrating in public horticulture. Previously\, Julia has served as an intern at the Denver Botanical Gardens where she worked closely with the director of the Japanese Garden and the Bonsai Horticulturist. \n\n\n\nThis experience sparked Julia’s interest in Japanese Gardens and their attentive design\, symbolic artistry\, and maintenance. Her role in the Hesler Biology Greenhouses\, as well as volunteering at UT Gardens in Knoxville\, all helped Julia explore her interest and expand her knowledge about this style of gardening. With her extensive knowledge\, Julia performs a variety of tasks to ensure that the Japanese Garden thrives. \n\n\n\nLocation: Japanese Garden \n\n\n\n \n Members: $55\n |\n Nonmembers: $60\n \n \n\n\n\nBecome a Friend of the Gardens and join us in our mission to protect\, nurture\, and share the wonders of Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
