Join the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens for Saturdays in the Gardens, a series of programs designed to help novice and seasoned gardeners alike hone gardening skills in a hands-on setting. Local experts discuss approachable gardening topics and trends, lead garden walks, and conduct demonstrations and activities. Programs, presented by the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, are held monthly January through May and September through December on third Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

March: Grow Amazing Azaleas
Experts from the Alabama Azalea Society will cover general information on growing azaleas in the home garden, including an introduction to some underutilized azaleas such as Satsukis and Alabama’s beautiful and fragrant native, deciduous azaleas. Participants will get a hands-on lesson in Azalea planting and care by assisting the experts in planting specimens donated to the Gardens by the Alabama Azalea Society.

Refunds (minus a $15 processing fee) will be given for Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens programs priced at $25 or more if notification is made at least 10 business days prior to class start date. (You are always welcome to send another person under your registration if you cannot attend.) Transfers may be made to programs of equal value at no additional fee. We reserve the right to cancel classes due to lack of participation or other unforeseen circumstances. Please note that programs are held rain or shine; in extreme weather conditions, programs may be canceled for your safety and the safety of staff and volunteers. If we cancel a program for any of these reasons, we will issue a full refund.
