The Archives and Rare Book Room is part of the Library at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, located on the first floor of the Garden Center. The collection is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday–Friday.

All patrons are required to fill out a general registration form prior to examining any archival or rare materials. The Archives & Rare Book Room features materials generated by the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, the City of Birmingham, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, plant groups, garden clubs, and societies. The collection includes scrapbooks, rare books, Works Progress Administration (WPA) records, seed catalogs, garden manuals, manuscripts, Japanese tea ceremony artifacts, plant fossils, photographs, minute books, postcards, botanical prints, and watercolor paintings.
